They All Come Out in the Wash
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is one of those queer books that doesn’t seem to have a pause or period in it. Honestly, I felt like the pace was such that I couldn’t ever really catch my breath. The pace of excitement, you know; it all seemed to go by in a flash. Perhaps that is most appropriate for a character like Willy Wonka, described as both squirrel-like and excitable. A nice, lucid book for children all in all. Though I think the children had rather too good a grip on grammar from time to time. Though old Dahl himself, apparently hated Gene Wilder’s version of the movie, I can’t help but love a character who quotes Shakespeare at odd times. At any rate, as Willy would say, it all comes out in the wash.
